Jordan and Lebanon have partnred to implement a very unique project titled “foundation for a Strong Future: Youth in Lebanon and Jordan Promote Cultural Heritage” that aims to promote accessibility and sharing of cultural heritage, and builds pride and knowledge amongst community members. This project is being implemented in partnership with four local organizations, two in Jordan and two in Lebanon: The Jordan Museum and Queen Zein Al-Sharaf Institute for Development, Beirut National Museum and l’Association pour la Protection des Sites et Anciennes Demeures au Liban
( APSAD ).

During the first quarter of the year, the partners set an action plan, detailing the role of each partner in the implementation process. Introductory meetings were held in Akkar, Tripoli, Nabatiyeh, Baalbek, Hermel and Beirut suburbs in Lebanon. The purpose of these meetings was to introduce the project to the local communities eager to learn about the program, faculty, youth and parents attended. Youth submitted over 1,500 applications to the project team, who screened the applications according to stringent criteria, and selected a group of 149 participants comprised of equal numbers of male and female youth from the above mentioned areas in Lebanon.

Meetings were conducted with the selected youth to introduce them to each other and to provide them with information about the project. Two Training of Trainers sessions were given in Lebanon by the educational advisor on the Cultural Heritage training curriculum the sessions were then given to the youth . In addition, two multimedia trainings were conducted. In Lebanon, the multimedia training was conducted over two days by the Audio Visual Faculty at the Notre Dame University. The trainings covered film making/audio, media print, and photography.

The last set of trainings took place on site in Lebanon. The main objective was to educate the participating youth, field mobilizers and multimedia team on the concept of Cultural Heritage. The Jordan Museum staff led this phase in Jordan; the Beirut National Museum and APSAD led it in Lebanon. The visits covered various aspects of cultural heritage including archeology, folklore, traditions and habits. This training gave the youth deep insight into their local cultural heritage, which will be important as they start choosing and producing their projects. (www.asassat.com).
